A key aspect to continue with the implementation of the Guidelines of the Economic and Social
Policy of the Cuban Communist Party and with the updating process of the Cuban Economic
Model is to properly carry out the Ordering Task. The exchange and monetary unification will
provide the necessary tools for the Cuban accountancy system to help decision-making in line
with the demands of the Cuban business context. One of the most important tools to know the
amount of money needed in the short term of organizations is the Necessary Working Capital.
The methodology described by the Ministry of Finance and Prices offers a better approach to
the money-request process from the State´s budget and the banks, in contrast with the previous
practices. However, in accounting and financial sciences, specific company-adjusted methods
are studied and implemented to more accurately determine the amount of money that a
company needs in the short term. This paper shows a comparative analysis of the use of three
alternative methods to the one required, in order to determine which method is more effective for the Sancti Spíritus CIMEX Branch. It was concluded that the Allowable Balance method is the effective one to calculate the Necessary Working Capital for trading companies, specifically,
for the Sancti Spíritus CIMEX Branch.
