Resumen:
The present research report deals with the current problems which are one of the
biggest difficulties facing education, taking into account the new transformations in the
junior high school model and the importance of the independent work method in regard
to form the personality of the learner in relation to the creation of independent work
habits and the development of research skills. Activities aimed at contributing to the
development of independent work are applied, created on the basis of a pedagogical
model, different from those traditionally presented in English language teaching. The
objective of this research is to apply teaching activities in the English lessons in order to
contribute to the development of independent work in ninth grade students at “Ramón
Leocadio Bonachea” Junior High School in Sancti Spíritus city. Theoretical methods
were used such as the historical-logical, the analysis-synthesis and the inductiondeduction;
from the empirical level, the interview, the survey, the observation and the
document review were used; and from the statistical and mathematical processing
level, the procedure of percentage calculation was used. The results obtained during
the stage of final research diagnosis were evaluated, which allowed us to conclude that
the implementation of the activities greatly contributed to solve the existing problems as
there were evident changes and an increase in the development of independent work in
the selected sample.
